Successful interior design govern by rules of space, light, color and materials
and lighting for sure is the main factor for showing the rest inside interior space
[man stop speaking about rules and stuff, start talkin' about how to draw and model interior spaces for god sake]
[Let people get benefits!]
Man ! how come people understand how to draw without knowing the basics !?
You know nothin'!
Let us continue, please
with the use of light we can convert a small and dark room
into a room full of liveliness and activity!
Also, we can make a room for setting at night while reading a book using light basics
Before we start our subject for today
I advise you to watch a video for Mohammad Ihsan speaking about lighting in photography In a way easy to understand and enjoyable with his touch of professionalism
You will find the link to the video in the "I" and in the description
The lighting is divided into two main types
1) Natural (like daylighting)
2) Industrial (like fixtures)
Natural light is the most important, and its considered the main wealth for interior designer
to utilize at the beginning of his process
and to try to bring the most of it inside his designed space
because it's for sure free and good for our bodies
and here we remember an old Italian saying
natural lighting/daylighting can be contained through [Doors]
[Windows]
[Arches]
[Domes]
[Ceiling openings]
and likewise of architectural openings
so, we need to be aware of spaces that need daylight
for example, it's important to cast sunlight at the kitchen space in the early morning
and afternoon sun for the living and the office or library
Bathroom to cast some indirect lighting which preserves privacy
and here we need to differentiate between direct and indirect lighting
as we can see the light which comes to us from the direct sun through a window or outside
is a natural direct lighting
and when the sky is cloudy, the light becomes indirect and diffused through the clouds
in the interior spaces, we have to know that materials and colors used effects light deeply
carpet has millions of fur and fibers that like a monster light in observing light and minimize it in the space
dark wall tones and rough textures of each surface reduces the possibility of reflecting light and re-bounce it again
on the other hand smooth and reflective like glass, mirror, polished plastic, tiles, ceramic, and even picture frames
does its work in bouncing and reflecting daylight inside the space
we quickly feel space becomes lighter and larger than its physical reality
the second type is the industrial
it has colors and different rushes of warmth measured in kelvin
single-colored or RGB
consisting of 16 million colors approximately
single-colored light which measured in kelvin starts with 1000 kelvin up to 10 thousand passing over daylight
which starts from 5000 kelvin to 6000 kelvin
and this industrial comes in different shapes, which we can buy from the market or the supplier
we have: 1) the normal bulb [lamp]
it's split into 3 kinds
with variables in intensity and luminosity
1) Table lamp: the most famous fixture which adds personality and soft diffused light
we find it over the nightstands and side tables
3) Floorlamp same as table lamps characterized by not needing a table to be put on
practical at corners
Nice modern shape with nice distributed lighting used over dining tables and bars
well known uses for study, reading, and office works generally
Wall light, used to light an interior or exterior wall, gives an artistic touch to the walls
they are the well-developed version of general lighting of rooms and interior spaces
Provides general light because it allows guiding the direction of each spotlight individually, usually 3 to 4 pieces
used on sides of the bathroom mirror to lighten the user
spotlight engraved inside drywall can be fixed or directed provides general and distributed light
lighten halls, hallways, and double volume areas considered the fanciest general light
can be directed to lighten an activity like reading, sewing, or using tablets or likewise
after speaking about natural and industrial lights that can be bought from stores
we will speak about the procedures of placing it inside space which is split on its own into 3 main layers usu
Layer [1]: General lighting
to provide general light to space from a high point
Usually hanged in the center of the room, its function to determine the shape of the space
and to act as a guide to the nature of space
like the bulb in the center of the ceiling, unfortunately, was the choice for all houses I lived in
track mounted spotlights is the alternative, which considers ideal and modern to general light space
and we also have the chandelier the most expensive choice of the mentioned characterized with its amazing designs
Layer [2]: accent lighting
which creates the MOOD for space and gives it the personality needed like the table lamps
picture frame lights
wall lights or candles
Layer [3]: functional light
to lighten a work in the space like reading, sewing, or working on the computer and so on
like reading floor lamp and office desk lamp
suppose this is a living and a dining room that need to be lit
first thing first I will apply general light by placing
quad spotlight on side tables and coffee table
tri-pendant lamp over the dining table to be linear downwards
layer [2] table lamps on side tables, floor lamps on the corners, wall lamps beside art pieces
also wall lamps beside art pieces in the dining area
3rd and last layer I will put a reading floor lamp in the living so if anyone would like to read or do an activity while seated
and as we always say the topics we discuss has the purpose of pushing us closer to the final result of our product
and the light surely is the most important aspect to look for rendering a nice interior
with it, I can show the beauty of a spot and hide another defect
if god wells in the upcoming videos we will continue to speak about colors and textures
which completes the general basics of aesthetic and function to the interior design spaces
it was me Mohammad MUGHRABI, and I will see you in the upcoming videos,
peace!
